Project 9 – Untied

We were tasked with designing a menu for Untied, which is a trendy roof-top bar in Barangaroo, Sydney. The logo, text and some images were provided.

My original idea for the layout of the menu came from looking at the Pantone Colour Swatch Book.

I wanted to do something that was unique and memorable yet be practical and easy to read. After some thought, the size I decided on was 140 x 297mm, left enough room to layout the content comfortably without it being too large. 

Untied, seemed the sort of venue where people meet, stand around and mingle, as opposed to more formal seated dining. It was for this reason that I wanted to come up with a solution where the menu could be carried and read one handed without pages falling out.

Laser cut and etched plywood front and back covers seemed like an elegant solution, with the advantage of putting artwork on the outside.
